One of Latino Commission on AIDS’ very own, Socrates Ruben Cabrera shares his story not only as a PrEP patient but also as a person who has become a strong advocate for PrEP users in Latino and Spanish speaking communities through his work at Oasis, Latino LGBTS Wellness Center-program of the Latino Commission on AIDS. Cabrera’s journey is featured at the “PrEP: HIV Prevention That Promotes Care” video produced by The Body Pro. “I’ve become confident and knowledgeable, and evolved into a person who is passionate about the work that I do to ensure that we can provide our participants and communities with as many tools to prevent HIV”-stated Socrates Ruben Cabrera.
Science shows that Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) provides nearly 100% protection from HIV infection through the use of a daily pill. PrEP has become essential to engage many patients in primary care. The Latino Commission on AIDS provides PrEP education, counseling, linkage to care, and adherence follow-ups.
