SUMMARY:We'll Defeat AIDS Con Ganas! - Raleigh\, NC
DESCRIPTION:Join community based organizations\, community members\, and advocates from across North Carolina to commemorate National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day. We’ll remember those we’ve lost\, but also look to the future toward the policies needed to address HIV disparities in the Latinx Closing the Medicaid gap is one tool that would help address disparities and provide access to healthcare for over a thousand North Carolinians living with HIV. \nOctober 15 marks the 16th year for National Latinx HIV Awareness DAY (NLAAD)\, a national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative targeted at Latinx in the United States and the Diaspora. NLAAD was founded in 2003 as a national national community mobilization and social marketing campaign to unite the Hispanic/Latino community in efforts to raise HIV awareness\, promotion of HIV testing\, prevention\, and education. Our theme this year is “We’ll Defeat AIDS con Ganas.” We want to integrate key elements of HIV prevention\, knowing your status\, and treatment adherence in order to see an end all goal where non of our community members receive an AIDS diagnosis. \nHosted by: Latino Commission on AIDS\, Latinos in the Deep South Program\, North Carolina AIDS Action Network\, Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina\, El Centro Hispano \nSponsored by the Latino Commission on AIDS\, Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina\, North Carolina AIDS Action Network

SUMMARY:Dia Nacional de la Concientización del VIH/SIDA - San Diego\, CA
DESCRIPTION:SYHC participates in this national event each year to help promote the importance of HIV testing and education in the primarily Latino South Bay area of San Diego. On October 14\, 2016\, we will host a local health fair with community partners. We start with intensive outreach and education for the community so that we can help Latinos in our area understand risk levels associated with HIV and learn how to protect themselves. Then\, we offer FREE HIV tests to anyone who would like one. Any time we find someone who is HIV+\, we have a program to help them access medical care\, as well as\, case management\, support groups and counseling. With San Ysidro Health Center’s support\, people newly diagnosed with HIV can connect to care\, start HIV treatment\, stay in care and keep the virus under control. \nIn collaboration with: AHF\, American Diabetes Association\, Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition\, BLUE SHIELD OF CA\, CASA\, CASA Familiar\, CHIP PROGRAM\, Costco\, County of San Diego Health and Human\, E-Study Site\, Healthy Steps\, Hearts and Hands Working Together\, Immigration Center for Woman & Childen\, Life wave\, Patronato Pro hospital General Tijuana\, PCI-VDS-MEXICAN CONSULATE\, Resendez Chiropractic Center\, SAN DIEGO CONSUL OF MEXICO\, San Diego G&E\, SBHIS\, Southern Caregiver Center\, SYHC- ACA outreach\, SYHC- Reserch and Health Promotion\, SYHC- Special Projects\, UPAC\, VISION Y COMPROMISO\, XOLO MAYOR\, ZUMBA

SUMMARY:Twitter Chat on HIV/AIDS among Hispanics/Latinx
DESCRIPTION:Join @NLAAD & @LULAC for a Twitter Chat on HIV/AIDS among Hispanics/Latinx in the US and Dependent Areas. Follow us at #NLAAD. \nHispanics/Latinos in the United States (US) are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS. They represent 17% of the US population yet accounted for almost 1 in 4 (24%) infections among adults and adolescents in 2014. Factors such as lack of health insurance\, language barriers\, lack of familiarity with the US healthcare system and stigma often limit the health care access of Hispanics/Latinos in the US\, thereby limiting opportunities for HIV/AIDS screening and treatment. Given that Hispanics/Latinos are the largest and fastest growing minority group in the US\, addressing HIV/AIDS in their community is important to the nation’s health.
